UNDERSTANDING INDICES

What Are Indices?

Picking a winning stock is hard. Indices remove that pressure. An index tracks the collective performance of a group of companies — when the US economy looks strong, the S&P 500 rises. When it weakens, it falls. Trading indices means trading your macro view, not your stock-picking ability.

What Moves Indices?

/01

Earnings Reports

Every quarter, public companies report earnings. A beat sends the stock up. A miss sends it down. Earnings season (Jan, Apr, Jul, Oct) is the highest volatility period for individual stocks.

/02

Federal Reserve

Higher rates = borrowing costs rise = corporate profits squeezed = indices fall. Rate cut expectations = market rallies. The Fed is the most powerful force in global equity markets.

/03

GDP

Strong economic data lifts indices — it implies stronger corporate revenues. Weak PMI or GDP data signals recession risk and drags markets lower.

FAQs?

A stock market index is a measurement of the performance of a group of stocks representing a particular market or sector. For example, the S&P 500 tracks the 500 largest US-listed companies. When you trade an index CFD on Amillex, you are speculating on whether the collective value of that group of companies will rise or fall.

Amillex offers CFDs on major global indices including: US30 (Dow Jones Industrial Average), SPX500 (S&P 500), NAS100 (Nasdaq 100), GER40 (DAX 40 — Germany), UK100 (FTSE 100 — UK), FRA40 (CAC 40 — France), JPN225 (Nikkei 225 — Japan), AUS200 (ASX 200 — Australia), HK50 (Hang Seng — Hong Kong), and more. The full list is available on the Products page.

An index ETF (Exchange-Traded Fund) is a financial product you actually purchase and own on a stock exchange. An index CFD is a derivative contract with Amillex that tracks the price of the same index, allowing you to go long or short with leverage without owning the underlying ETF. CFDs offer greater flexibility, leverage, and the ability to profit from falling markets (short selling).

Yes. One of the major advantages of CFD trading is the ability to sell short — profiting when an index falls. If you believe the US30 will decline, you open a sell position. If the index drops, your position gains value. Short selling is fully supported on all Amillex index CFDs.

Index CFDs are typically available with lower leverage than Forex pairs. Amillex offers leverage on indices of up to 1:100 depending on the instrument and regulatory jurisdiction. Lower leverage on indices reflects the higher per-point value of these instruments relative to Forex micro positions.
