On October 21, 2026, global commodity markets entered an intense tug-of-war shaped by external geopolitical crises and monetary policy headwinds. Spot gold remained under pressure today, trading near $4,116.80 per ounce. Although safe-haven demand has edged higher, hawkish expectations of a potential Federal Reserve rate hike later this year—with next week’s FOMC meeting fast approaching—continue to cap upside momentum, limiting buyers’ appetite at elevated levels and leaving gold in a consolidated tug-of-war.
In contrast to gold’s sluggish consolidation, energy markets were ignited by intensifying concerns over supply disruptions. WTI crude oil traded firmly near $98.29 per barrel, touching a five-month high intraday. Heightened risks around critical energy infrastructure and Gulf shipping lanes, combined with high-level regional security talks and elevated defense postures, have pushed fears over oil transportation safety and output outages to a peak. In the short term, bullish momentum in the crude market remains highly robust, with prices poised to test higher levels if supply risks escalate further.
